4-WEEK DEBATE SUMMER CAMP

In partnership with the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Umoja Debate League offers a free summer debate camp for students in grades 6–12. Students from all schools are welcome.

Camp introduces students to the foundations of debate in a supportive, engaging environment. Students learn to research topics, organize their ideas, build clear arguments, deliver structured speeches, and respond thoughtfully to opposing viewpoints.

The camp focuses on skill-building, confidence, and critical thinking. Students also take part in weekly community field trips, called Friday Fundays, where they meet community partners, explore different professional fields, and learn about potential career paths.

CAMP SCHEDULE

Middle school students (grades 6–8): Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
High school students (grades 9–12): Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
