6-week Debate Summer camp

In partnership with the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Umoja Debate League offers a free Debate Summer Camp for students in grades 6–12.

Open to all students in grades 6–12, the summer camp is designed to introduce students to the foundations of debate in a supportive and engaging environment. Throughout the program, students learn how to research topics, organize their thoughts, build clear arguments, deliver structured speeches, and practice responding to opposing viewpoints.

Rather than focusing on competition, the summer camp emphasizes skill development, confidence-building, and strengthening students’ ability to think critically and express themselves effectively.

Camp sessions are held as follows:
• Middle School: Monday & Wednesday
• High School: Tuesday & Thursday

In addition to debate instruction, students participate in weekly community-based field trips known as “Friday Fundays.” These experiences connect students with community partners and expose them to a variety of professional fields, expanding their awareness of potential career pathways and strengthening their connection to the community.

Information regarding 2026 registration will be available soon.
